【摘要】:Itisrecognizedthatsmallvessels,oftenmadeofglassreinforcedplastic(GRP),canbepoorreflectorsofradarsignals.Insituationswhereradaristheprimeobservationtoolusedbyshipsatsea,theInternationalMaritimeOrganization(IMO)considersthatitisessentialthatsmallvessels,consideredinthiscontexttobethoseunder150grosstonnage,beequippedwitharadarreflectortoenhancetheirradarreturnandthustoimprovetheirvisibilitytoradar.ThisInternationalStandardspecifiestheminimumrequirementsforaradarreflectorintendedtoenhancereturnsfromsmallvesselsasrequiredbyIMOResolutionMSC.164(78).Itprovidesthespecificationfortheconstruction,performance,testing,inspectionandinstallationofsuchradarreflectors.Therearetwotypesofradarreflector:passiveandactive.Passivereflectorsaremechanical,whereasactivereflectorshaveanelectronicelement.ThispartofISO8729concernspassivereflectors.
