【摘要】:ThisguidedescribessamplecollectionandhandlingproceduresdesignedtominimizelossesofVOCs.TheprincipalmechanismsforthelossofVOCsfrommaterialsduringcollection,handlingandstoragearevolatilizationandbiodegradation.SusceptibilityofvariousVOCstothesetwolossmechanismsisbothcompoundandmatrixspecific.Ingeneral,compoundswithhighervaporpressuresaremoresusceptibletovolatilizationthancompoundswithlowervaporpressures.Also,aerobicallydegradablecompoundsaregenerallymoresusceptibletobiodegradationthananaerobicallydegradablecompounds.Insomecases,theformationofothercompoundsnotoriginallypresentinthematerialcanoccur.LossorgainofVOCsleadstoanalyticalresultsthatareunrepresentativeoffieldconditions.Ancillaryinformationconcerningsamplecollection,handlingandstorageforVOCanalysisisprovidedinAppendicesAppendixX1,AppendixX2,andAppendixX3.Theseappendixesandcitedreferencesarerecommendedreadingforthoseunfamiliarwiththemanychallengespresentedduringthecollection,handlingandstorageofsamplesforVOCanalysis.1.1Thisguidedescribesrecommendedproceduresforthecollection,handling,andpreparationofsolidwaste,soil,andsedimentsamplesforsubsequentdeterminationofvolatileorganiccompounds(VOCs).Thisclassofcompoundsincludeslowmolecularweightaromatics,hydrocarbons,halogenatedhydrocarbons,ketones,acetates,nitriles,acrylates,ethers,andsulfideswithboilingpointsbelow200x00B0;Celsius(C)thatareinsolubleorslightlysolubleinwater.1.2Methodsofsamplecollection,handling,storage,andpreparationforanalysisaredescribed.1.3Thisguidedoesnotcoverthedetailsofsamplingdesign,laboratorypreparationofcontainers,andtheanalysisofthesamples.1.4ItisrecommendedthatthisguidebeusedinconjunctionwithGuideD4687.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
